The Bombination Lightyear movie's director explains how it connects to the Play Tale universe
Buzz Lightyear's standalone moving picture has a untested trailer – and everyone's confused. How, exactly, does Lightyear join to the Toy Story universe? Presumably, this is the origins account of the blank space ranger that the toy is supported, right? Merely then, how come the Earth in Fiddle Story is non same technologically advanced, yet the one in the Lightyear pic has Bombilation slingshotting around the sun?
Director Angus MacLane has an answer. Kinda. IT's complicated.
"'Kick in the world of Toy Story' is kind of weird," he told Entertainment Each week. "Another room to get at IT, IT's a straightforward sci-fi litigate film virtually the Buzz Lightyear character. In the Play Story existence, it would be like a movie that maybe Andy would take in seen, that would take up made him want a Buzz Lightyear figure."
"The movie doesn't final stage then you see Andy eating Zea mays everta," the filmmaker added. "This is its own thing… This is standalone. IT's the Buzz Lightyear movie. It's that character merely as the space ranger, non as the toy."
Fundamentally, it sounds like Lightyear could be seen as a moving picture within the Dally Story universe that the Buzz Lightyear action figure is supported on. Confusingly, though, Chris Evans – who voices this incarnation of Seethe, taking over from Tim Allen – antecedently said that the Bombination in Lightyear is the origins story of the human Buzz.
"Honorable to be clear, this isn't Buzz Lightyear the toy," he tweeted. "This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on."
Now that the trailer's unconscious, the internet has decided: this isn't same clear, Chris! But, let's do our best: Lightyear is a fictional movie in the Fiddle Story universe that tells the story of an unreal space ranger who's possibly partly based on a real in-world man called Buzz. Maybe? We need some other tweet from Evans to clear this extraordinary whol up – or maybe just blur things further.
Whatsoever the case, we'll find out more when Lightyear rockets into cinemas on June 17, 2022. Meanwhile, fit out our guide to new Disney movies.
